Biography
Born and raised in Kingston, Ontario, Kathryn is a Toronto based singer and educator with a passion for bringing music into people’s lives. Kathryn holds a Master of Music from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto and is well versed in classical, musical theatre and jazz/pop repertoire and technique.
Kathryn enjoys working with students of all ages and experience levels, having taught a number of private students and assisted in the vocal direction of musicals in her hometown. Her teaching style is rooted in healthy, full-body technique and flexible communication which ensures continued vocal health as well as adaptability as students’ voices develop. Getting to know each student’s learning style and tailoring lessons to each if their needs and interests is the most important step in helping them achieve their musical goals, and as a bonus, is an exciting puzzle. Kathryn finds joy in all stages of music making from preparation to performance and aims to impart that joy on her students. In that spirit she hopes to make each lesson as fulfilling as a performance.
A frequent performer of opera, operetta and musical theatre, Kathryn has sung in such shows as La bohème, The Marriage of Figaro, Anne of Green Gables and Chicago. She has also sung in many concerts including performances of jazz and pop music, so she is excited to work on a wide range of repertoire with students. As well as performance, Kathryn has also had a lot of experience with auditions and competitions and is overjoyed when she can share all she has learned from these events to help guide the next generation of musicians.
Kathryn is thrilled to be joining Bravo Academy and cannot wait to welcome new students into her studio. Let’s make some music!
