Biography
Michael Spiroff is a composer, performer, music director, and educator, as well as soon-to-be graduate of McGill University with a Master of Music degree in composition. Originally from Toronto, Michael began his musical journey in jazz playing alto saxophone, and eventually discovered musical theatre and classical music. He graduated with his B.Mus in composition from the Mannes School of Music in New York City in 2018. Michael has been teaching privately for over 10 years, and has experience music directing, accompanying and coaching.
Having formally studied composition, piano, voice, and saxophone, as well as completing pedagogical studies in ear training and theory, Michael’s multifaceted background provides a wide range of perspectives to enrich the experience of students in the classroom.
Michael’s compositions have been performed in places such as the Czech Center of New York, Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance, Tuckamore Festival in St. John’s, NL, and, coming this summer, he will have three premiers at the Festival Songe d’Été en Musique in L’Estrie, QC. Michael has composed for a range of ensemble types, including choir, string quartet, song cycle, solo piano, and orchestra.
